The virus scanner in cPanel searches for viruses, trojan horses, malware, and other threats. To run a virus scan, follow these steps:

  • Log in on your cPanel account.
  • In the Advanced section of the cPanel home screen, click “Virus Scanner” as shown in the image below:

  • Select the type of scan you would like to do as shown in the image below:

  • Details:
    • Scan Mail: This option scans the mail directory in your account, looking for viruses in incoming and outgoing e-mail messages.
    • Scan Entire Home Directory: This option scans all of the files in your account (including website files and e-mails).
    • Scan Public Web Space: This option scans the public_html directory in your account. This is where your website files are usually stored.
    • Scan Public FTP Space: This option scans the public_ftp directory in your account.
  • Click “Scan Now” to start the procedure.
  • If the virus scan finds any infected files, you can specify what to do with the files:
    • Disinfect: When this option is selected, the virus scanner removes harmful content from the file(s).
    • Quarantine: When this option is selected, the virus scanner moves the file(s) to the quarantine directory. The quarantine directory is located at USERNAME/quarantine_clamavconnector, where USERNAME represents your cPanel username.
    • Destroy: When this option is selected, the virus scanner deletes the infected file(s).
    • Ignore: When this option is selected, the virus scanner leaves the infected file(s) unchanged.

To complete the virus scan process, click “Process Cleanup”.

  • If no viruses are found you will see a message as shown in the image below simply proceed to click on “OK”:
