ADSL
Asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) is a type of DSL broadband communications technology used for connecting to the Internet. ADSL allows more data to be sent over existing copper telephone lines (POTS), when compared to traditional modem lines.

ASCII
ASCII, abbreviated from American Standard Code for Information Interchange, is a character encoding standard for electronic communication. ASCII codes represent text in computers, telecommunications equipment, and other devices.
ASP
Active Server Pages (ASP), later known as Classic ASP or ASP Classic, is Microsoft's first server-side script engine for dynamically generated web pages. ASP.NET, first released in January 2002, has superseded ASP.
Bandwidth
This is basically a description of how much data can be sent through a connection in unit time. Usually measured in bits-per-second.
bit
A bit (short for binary digit) is the smallest unit of data in a computer. A bit has a single binary value, either 0 or 1.
byte
A group of binary digits or bits (usually eight) operated on as a unit.
Cache
Cache, which is pronounced "cash" (not "catch" or "cashay"), stores recently used information so that it can be quickly accessed at a later time. Computers incorporate several different types of caching in order to run more efficiently, thereby improving performance. Common types of caches include browser cache, disk cache, memory cache, and processor cache.
CAPTCHA
A computer program or system intended to distinguish human from machine input, typically as a way of thwarting spam and automated extraction of data from websites.
CGI
Computer-generated imagery (special visual effects created using computer software).
CMS
A content management system manages the creation and modification of digital content. It typically supports multiple users in a collaborative environment. CMS features vary widely.
Cookie
A cookie is a small amount of data generated by a website and saved by your web browser. Its purpose is to remember information about you, similar to a preference file created by a software application.
cPanel
cPanel is an online Linux-based web hosting control panel that provides a graphical interface and automation tools designed to simplify the process of hosting a web site.
Dedicated Server
A dedicated server is a single computer in a network reserved for serving the needs of the network. For example, some networks require that one computer be set aside to manage communications between all the other computers. ... DNS
Domain Name System. The Internet's system for converting alphabetic names into numeric IP addresses. For example, when a Web address (URL) is typed into a browser, DNS servers return the IP address of the Web server associated with that name.
DNS Flush
When troubleshooting cache poisoning or other internet connectivity issues, a computer administrator may wish to flush (i.e. clear, reset, or erase) a DNS cache.
Domain Name
The unique name that identifies the address of an internet site.
Domain Transfer
A domain transfer refers to the process of changing the designated registrar of a domain name. Domain names may be transferred only if they have been registered with the previous registrar for 60 days or more .

HTTP means HyperText Transfer Protocol. HTTP is the underlying protocol used by the World Wide Web and this protocol defines how messages are formatted and transmitted, and what actions Web servers and browsers should take in response to various commands.
Internet
A global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols.
Intranet
A local or restricted communications network, especially a private network created using World Wide Web software.
ISP
Short for Internet Service Provider. A company that provides individuals and other companies access to the Internet.
JavaScript
An object-oriented computer programming language commonly used to create interactive effects within web browsers.
Mailing list
A list of the names and addresses of people to whom advertising matter, information, or other material may be mailed regularly.
Malware
Software which is specifically designed to disrupt, damage, or gain authorized access to a computer system.
Payment Gateway
A payment gateway is a merchant service provided by an e-commerce application service provider that authorizes credit card or direct payments processing for e-businesses and online retailers.
PHP
An open source, server-side, HTML embedded scripting language used to create dynamic Web pages. Mainly used for it's compatibility with many types of databases.

Proxy Server

Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication. A standardized system for the distribution of content from an online publisher to Internet users.
SEO
Short for search engine optimization. The optimisation of web pages or the whole website so that it achieves higher rankings for important key terms with specific search engines.
Server Side
Something happening on the server computer, as opposed to the client or local computer.
Shared Hosting
Shared hosting is Web hosting in which the service provider serves pages for multiple Web sites, each having its own Internet domain name, from a single Web server. Although shared hosting is a less expensive way for businesses to create a Web presence, it is usually not sufficient for Web sites with high traffic.
Spam
Irrelevant or unsolicited messages sent over the Internet, typically to a large number of users, for the purposes of advertising, phishing, spreading malware, etc.
Spyware
Software that enables a user to obtain covert information about another's computer activities by transmitting data covertly from their hard drive.
SQL
SQL is an abbreviation for structured query language, and pronounced either see-kwell or as separate letters. SQL is a standardized query language for requesting information from a database.
SSH
Secure Shell is a cryptographic network protocol for operating network services securely over an unsecured network. The standard TCP port for SSH is 22. The best known example application is for remote login to computer systems by users.
SSI
Server Side Includes (SSI) is a simple interpreted server-side scripting language used almost exclusively for the Web.
SSL
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral.
Upload
Transfer (data) from one computer to another, typically to one that is larger or remote from the user or functioning as a server.
URL
Uniform (or Universal) Resource Locator. The address of a World Wide Web page
Virtual Hosting
Virtual hosting is a method for hosting multiple domain names (with separate handling of each name) on a single server (or pool of servers). This allows one server to share its resources, such as memory and processor cycles, without requiring all services provided to use the same host name.
