What is a "hard refresh"?

Many times when something on a website changes that change is not visible to the public immediately. This is most likely caused by the visitor's browser caching a previous version of the website. The easiest way to clear cached data for the current page a user is visiting is for them to do a hard refresh. A hard refresh reloads and clears cached data for the page a user is on.

How to do a hard refresh?

Windows: ctrl + F5
Mac/Apple: Apple + R or command + R
Linux: F5

Why does a server block my public IP?

Most servers are configured to prevent brute-force attacks. Brute-force is a trial and error method used by application programs to decode encrypted data such as passwords, through extensive effort (using brute force).

How do I flush my DNS cache?

For Windows systems

  1. Open the Start menu.
  2. Go to Run. If you do not see the Run command in Vista, search for "run" in the Search bar.
  3. In the Run text box, type: ipconfig /flushdns
  4. Press Enter and your cache will be flushed.

For Mac systems

  1. Go to Applications.
  2. Go to Utilities.
  3. Open the Terminal application.
  4. Type: dscacheutil -flushcache
  5. Press Return and your cache will be flushed.
